Sardinia with Kids: A Little Luxe Family Adventure

Sardinia in the summer? It is everything you’ve heard and more. The water is that color. The views are that dreamy. The food is that good. And in true Little Luxe fashion, we simply could not choose one hotel, one beach, or one corner of the island and call it a day.
Because apparently even on a “relaxing” beach vacation, our family’s love language is a highly researched multi-stop itinerary.
I researched and researched, asked a million questions, researched some more, and came up with a plan that felt equal parts fabulous and financially responsible. Because yes, you can absolutely spend a gazillion dollars in Sardinia without even breaking a sweat. My mission was to find the best places for the best prices — luxe, but make it strategic.
Based on our flights, we decided to fly in and out of Alghero. On arrival day, we didn’t see any of the city — but more on that later. We picked up our rental car, loaded up the kids, and headed north for our first stop:
Stop One: Hotel Marinedda Thalasso & SPA
Our first hotel was Hotel Marinedda Thalasso & SPA, a five-star property overlooking La Marinedda beach near Isola Rossa, with a huge spa and gorgeous sea views.
And let me tell you: this hotel knows how to make an entrance.
You arrive to a beautiful open lobby that immediately says, welcome, you made an excellent decision. The property is massive — and hilly — so golf carts are available to help get you around, which feels both practical and a little glamorous.
After getting settled into our perfectly appointed room for our family of four, we made our way to the beach and then headed down for dinner. At each hotel, we opted for the half board program, which is one of the things we’ve really come to love about traveling in Italy. We like to spend our days exploring and then return to the hotel knowing dinner is handled. At that point in the day, I am no longer interested in making any decisions. Zero. None. Bring me carbs and tell me where to sit.
The first night we chose the family-style buffet, which was piled with meats, seafood, pasta, and basically everything you could possibly want after a travel day. The next morning, breakfast by the pool was just as wonderful.
For our first two days in Sardinia, the weather was extremely windy, which meant the beach looked absolutely stunning… and also mildly aggressive. The waves were huge. We enjoyed the view very much from a safe and respectable distance, but swimming was out. Honestly, in hindsight, it was probably for the best. I’m sure the beach is incredible when calm, but on those days it was giving “beautiful chaos.”
So instead of a beach day on day two, we pivoted and visited Cantina Li Duni — and I am so glad we did. There was plenty of space for the kids to run around while we soaked in the view, sipped delicious wine, and ate pecorino romano that I am still thinking about. Add in some Sardinian bread and it was the kind of lunch that makes you briefly consider changing your entire life plan.
Back at the hotel, we had another delicious dinner followed by an unbelievable sunset. Then it was off to kids club and the evening “circus,” which turned into a full family affair of dancing, games, and general vacation joy.
Our final breakfast there consisted mainly of me eating as much pecorino as I could reasonably justify, followed by one last trip to the beach to watch the waves before heading off to our next stop.

Stop Two: Park Hotel Cala di Lepre & SPA
Next up was Park Hotel Cala di Lepre & SPA in Palau, a four-star resort surrounded by nature with family-friendly services, sports facilities, spa amenities, and easy access to the stunning north coast. This was the most affordable of our accommodations, but honestly, it did not feel like a compromise at all.
There were so many spaces for the kids to roam, plus a pool, beach, great food, and one of the best kids clubs of the trip. After checking into our beautiful room, we spent the day bouncing between the beach and pool, getting our bearings and settling into that magical vacation rhythm where all anyone really needs is sunscreen and snacks.
After dinner, we headed to the evening show and laughed so hard we cried. Family travel really peaks when everyone is entertained and nobody is asking for Wi-Fi.
The next day, we did one of the highlights of the entire trip: a full-day sailboat excursion to the La Maddalena Archipelago on the Delphina sailboat, Pulcinella, which is offered to hotel guests. This was by far one of our family’s favorite experiences and an absolute must-do. Beautiful beaches, great people, the famous pink sand beach, swimming, relaxing, lunch on board, and even musical serenades from the boat captains — it was the kind of day that makes you forget what your inbox looks like.
That evening, we were back at the hotel for dinner, then caught some live music and dancing. The next day was more beach time, more kids club, and more appreciation for just how much this hotel offers families.
I should also mention that at each of these properties, there was a photographer walking around taking photos, or you could schedule your own photo shoot. There was no session fee — you only paid for the photos you wanted to keep — which is honestly genius. Family photos without one parent having to balance a phone on a beach bag? We love to see it.
That night there was more show cooking, more delicious food, and then the kids were off again for spa night and soccer. Between playgrounds, arts and crafts, sports, tennis, archery, and soccer, there were so many incredible activities for children. It felt like one of those rare travel wins where the kids are having the time of their lives and the parents can actually exhale. After a few more morning activities, it was time for our final resort stop.
Stop Three: Hotel Erica at Resort Valle dell’Erica
Our last stop was Hotel Erica, part of Resort Valle dell’Erica Thalasso & SPA, a five-star resort set in a Mediterranean park on Sardinia’s north coast, with small coves, beaches, sea views, pools, and extensive family facilities.
This was the highest-rated and most expensive stop on our trip, which is exactly why we saved it for last. Go out with a bang, and all that.
This property is enormous. Ginormous. Vast. A place where you stop pretending you know where you are and just commit to being delighted by whatever view appears next. I’m still not entirely sure how many beaches there were, or whether we managed to see all of them, but the landscape was absolutely breathtaking.
We arrived, enjoyed a welcome drink, and were whisked away to our room — always a nice touch when your family has collectively reached the “nobody speak to me unless you have gelato” phase of the day.
Our room was bi-level, with a bed downstairs and stairs leading up to two bedrooms for the kids. We even had our own pool within the building, which felt wildly luxurious, especially considering the resort also seemed to have approximately one thousand other pools. Or at least enough that we lost count.
The balcony view was gorgeous, and once we unpacked, we headed out to explore. It was pure heaven: ocean, pool, repeat. Dinner was excellent, and after full bellies and a full day, we headed to bed happy.
The next two days were exactly what you want from a Sardinia escape: beach, pool, kids club breaks, relaxation, and that sweet vacation feeling where everybody is actually enjoying themselves. Not a single complaint. Well, maybe one: there was a lot of walking.
But honestly, with the amount of pasta, bread, cheese, and dessert we were consuming, the walking felt less like an inconvenience and more like a public service.
It was hard to leave.
One Last Surprise: Alghero
Our final stop was Alghero, where we stayed at Hotel Carlos V before our flight home the next day. To be honest, this was supposed to be just a practical overnight. A place to sleep. A box to check before heading to the airport. But Alghero ended up being so much more.
We only had a couple of hours, but we made the most of them by wandering around the town, eating, shopping, and soaking in the views. It was charming, lively, and the perfect final note for the trip. The kind of place that makes you immediately say, “Next time, we stay longer.”
And that was our Sardinia adventure: multiple hotels, countless pools, gorgeous beaches, dreamy cheese, boat days, kids clubs, sunsets, family shows, and just enough strategic planning to make it all feel seamless.
Exactly how we like it.
